Be Impeccable with Your Word
‘Hi Rinku,’ said Rahul on their Zoom call. ‘Life’s boring. I’m dying of boredom.’
‘Why such harsh words dude?’ said Rinku.
‘I’m jokingyaar,’ said Rahul. ‘They’re just words anyway. Won’t eat us.’
‘Words are magicthey say,’ said Rakesh. ‘In ‘The Four Agreements’ by Don Miguel Ruiz, a book about ancient Toltec wisdom, the first agreementwe must make for a meaningful life isto ‘be Impeccable with our word.’ Wordscan create joy or spread chaos and negativity.’
‘What’s being impeccable with our word?’ asked Rinku.
‘Using words preciselyand honoring them,’ said Rakesh. ‘Being impeccable is using words with integrity, honesty and truthfulness, meaningwhat we say, saying only what we desire and using words that lead to truth and love. When we’re impeccable with our word, we use our energy correctly.’
‘Sounds boring,’ said Rahul. ‘We have to be careful with what we say all the time.’
‘When we usewords we don’t mean, casually, repeatedly, they become habits and beliefsover time,’ said Rakesh. ‘What’sstarts as fun today becomes a reality that’s not funny anymore.’
‘But I’m only using harmless words against myself nabhaiyya?’ said Rahul.
‘Rahul, just as words canbuild, they candestroy,’ said Rakesh. ‘So it’s better to avoid speaking negatively about ourselves. And others. Though gossiping seems like fun, it’ssaidto be pure poison. Better avoid for best results.’
‘That’s a powerful agreement,’ said Rinku. ‘How do we know if we’re using words impeccably bhaiyya?’
‘Pretty simple,’ said Rakesh. ‘Tune into how you feel, into your energy, when you form and use words. If your energy feelsgood, joyful and integrated, you’re speaking with integrity and using words impeccably. If you’re feeling bad andout of alignment, then you’re not speaking out of integrity and are using words negatively. The final measure of the impeccability of your word is the level of self-love your words express – whenyour words are usedfor your good, to show your love for yourself.’
‘Bhaiyya, are you saying that bymerely being impeccable with our word we can create magic in our world?’ said Rahul.
‘Try it,’ said Rakesh. ‘Instead of saying you’re bored to death, use words impeccably andsee what happens.’
‘Okbhaiyya,’ said Rahul. ‘I’m excited and grateful forthistime, for this opportunityto create something good and joyful from it, for using it to learn something new from you two wonderful people.Hmm, I feel good. About myself and the world.’
‘And so do we,’ smiled Rakesh. ‘Our perspective has changed from boring to exciting and learning.’
Pro tip: When you use words impeccably, you create magic with them. Use words for your good, to create what you desire. Stop using them against yourself or others.
